CASE 2118
Flim-flam Fraud at the Office Depot

CONTRIBUTED BY: Det. Elwood L. Baldwin Jr.
February 03, 2025

On Dec. 21, 2024, a fraud occurred at the Office Depot at 12256 Bermuda Crossroad Lane in Chesterfield County. Three Black male suspects fraudulently activated 12 gift cards without paying using a flim-flam scheme at the cash register. The suspects gave instructions during the transaction that confused and distracted the employees, ultimately leading to a false activation and payment. The stolen gift cards were worth more than $2,495. It is believed these same suspects committed a similar fraud at an Office Depot in the City of Richmond.
