CRIME OF THE WEEK
CASE 1878
SHOOTING
CONTRIBUTED BY: Police Spec Ron Coombs
June 29, 2020
On July 4, 2013, the Chesterfield County community was stunned and saddened by the loss of 7-year-old Brendon Mackey. Brendon and his father were attending the annual fireworks display at Swift Creek Reservoir when Brendon was struck by a bullet while walking in front of the Boathouse Restaurant. Police believe the bullet that struck Brendon was fired randomly into the air. As we approach the anniversary of the tragic event, we want to take the opportunity to remind the public of Brendon's Law. This law makes the act of celebratory gunfire resulting in injury a felony.
